Brazil Can't Take Down Chevron's Operations Following Spill

Law360, New York (February 29, 2012, 5:08 PM EST) -- A judge in Brazil has rejected a request by Brazilian federal prosecutors to halt Chevron Corp.'s and drilling contractor Transocean Ltd.'s operations in the country following a November oil spill that prompted the $11 billion suit, a Transocean spokesman confirmed Wednesday.

The Brazilian government had asked the court to impose an injunction penalizing the companies nearly $280 million per day if they did not suspend operations in the country, according to a December statement by the prosecutor's office.
