House Drops CAFE Amendments From Energy Bill

Law360, New York (August 2, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- House Democrats have withdrawn two amendments to the energy bill designed to strengthen fuel economy standards, saying they will instead address automobile efficiency in conference with the Senate.

Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) said Wednesday that he withdrew his amendment, which called for raising Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards to 35 miles per gallon by 2019, after speaking with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
