India's Government Introduces Amendment To Patents Act

Law360, New York (March 11, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- India’s government has introduced an amendment to the Patents Act in Parliament, in a move that would officially introduce product patents on drugs, food and chemicals.

In December, the government promulgated an ordinance for amending the Patent Bill in order to meet with the World Trade Organization’s deadline of December 31 2004 for introducing a product patent regime. Once passed by the Parliament, the bill introduced last Friday would replace the ordinance.
