International Patent Filings Hit Record High In 2011

Law360, New York (March 5, 2012, 6:20 PM EST) -- International patent filings set a new benchmark in 2011, as more than 180,000 applications were filed through the Patent Cooperation Treaty on the year, the World Intellectual Property Organization announced Monday.

The record 181,900 patent filings represented a jump of nearly 11 percent from the 164,300 lodged in 2010, and the fastest growth of PCT filings since 2005, a tremendous accomplishment despite the challenges posed by a global recession, the WIPO said.
