Finland Grants Uranium Extraction License At Nickel Mine

Law360, New York (March 5, 2012, 7:03 PM EST) -- Finland will let Talvivaara Mining Co. PLC extract uranium from the Sotkamo nickel mine that it operates in the eastern part of the country, according to a Friday announcement by Canadian uranium producer Cameco Corp., which is investing $60 million in the extraction.

The Finnish government granted Espoo, Finland-based Talvivaara a license to extract the radioactive metal as a byproduct of nickel mining until 2054, according to a statement by Saskatchewan, Canada-based Cameco, which said it reached the agreement with Talvivaara in February 2011 to make...
