Still Awaiting Permit, BG Shelves Italian LNG Project

Law360, New York (March 6, 2012, 3:21 PM EST) -- Global energy company BG Group PLC has put a liquefied natural gas import project in southern Italy on hold and closed its local office after waiting more than a decade for local approval, a spokesman confirmed Tuesday.

BG Group first began plans for an 8 billion-cubic-meter LNG terminal in the port town of Brindisi in 2001. The €500 million ($650 million) project won support from the British and Italian governments and was named a strategic priority by the European Commission to shore up the region's gas...
