JFTC Taps New Commissioner Amid Antitrust Law Overhauls

Law360, New York (March 6, 2012, 8:45 PM EST) -- The Japanese Fair Trade Commission on Monday added a new commissioner, a Japan- and U.S.-trained economist, as the agency continues to refine its approach to the country’s new merger control system and pushes lawmakers to consider more amendments to Japan’s competition law.

Hiroyuki Odagiri, who had spent the past four years as director of the JFTC's Competition Policy Research Center, became one of the four commissioners who work alongside Chairman Kazuhiko Takeshima on Monday, the regulator said Tuesday.
