Oil Refinery Agrees To Nearly $1M Pollution Penalty

Law360, New York (March 6, 2012, 2:30 PM EST) -- A CVR Energy Inc. subsidiary will pay a civil penalty of above $970,000 and invest more than $10.6 million to resolve the government's claims that its Kansas oil refinery violated multiple pollution laws, the U.S. said Tuesday.

Coffeyville Resources Refining & Marketing LLC will spend more than $4.25 million on new pollution controls and $6.5 million in operating costs to end a lawsuit in Kansas federal court, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Justice.
