Cline Subsidiary Drops $2B Wis. Iron Mining Project

Law360, New York (March 7, 2012, 4:23 PM EST) -- A subsidiary of Florida-based mining company Cline Group has dropped plans for a $2 billion open-pit iron ore mine in northern Wisconsin in response to the Republican-controlled state senate's vote rejecting changes to mining regulations, the company said Wednesday.

After receiving an encouraging boost in late January when the Wisconsin State Assembly passed a bill that would relax iron ore mining permitting requirements over the objections of conservationists, the state senator holding the swing vote on the issue voted it down Tuesday.
