Sens. Blast Plan To Normalize Trade With Russia

Law360, New York (March 7, 2012, 2:37 PM EST) -- U.S. Senators told U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk Wednesday that they oppose normalizing trade relations with Russia as it plans to join the World Trade Organization, given the country's record on human rights and corruption.

At a hearing of the Senate Finance Committee, Kirk called on Congress to repeal the 1974 provision known as the Jackson-Vanik amendment, which bars normal trade relations with Russia, “as soon as possible.”
