EPA To Run New Tests In Wyo. Fracking Contamination Row

Law360, New York (March 9, 2012, 8:11 PM EST) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Friday announced it would team up with state and local officials in Wyoming to provide further testing in an effort to address a contested draft report on the safety of groundwater possibly contaminated by hydraulic fracturing.

The December report found that groundwater near an Encana Corp. gas field in Pavillion, Wyo., contained chemicals like benzene commonly used in hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, fluids. The EPA said the contaminants likely came from gas drilling operations in the area, but Wyoming's oil...
