FDA Approves Third Silicone Gel Breast Implant

Law360, New York (March 9, 2012, 7:36 PM EST) -- Despite calls from consumer and women’s health advocacy groups to ban silicone-gel-filled breast implants, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Sientra Inc.’s version on Friday, making it the third company allowed to market them in the U.S.

Sientra joins Johnson & Johnson unit Mentor Worldwide LLC and Allergan Inc., which have had their silicone-gel-filled implants on the market since 2006.
