China Places Strict Rules On Western Digital, Hitachi Merger

Law360, New York (March 12, 2012, 8:41 PM EDT) -- China's antitrust enforcer ordered Western Digital Corp. earlier this month to maintain Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Ltd. as an independent manufacturer to win clearance for its $4.5 billion takeover of Hitachi, far exceeding the requirements of U.S. and European Union officials and serving as a sharp warning that companies ignore China's merger review at their own risk.
