India's Upper House Passes Patents Act Amendment

Law360 (March 22, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- India’s upper house of Parliament has passed the government’s proposed overhaul of the country’s patent law.

The amendment to the Patents Act was passed Tuesday by the Lok Sabha with the support of the leftist parties but without the backing of the main opposition coalition.

The Bill was approved through voice vote, after the principal opposition, the National Democratic Alliance, staged a walk-out when its demand for referring the Bill to a select committee was not accepted.
