DOI Urges Closer Study Of Ariz. Hydro Project's Impact

Law360, New York (March 14, 2012, 1:51 PM EDT) -- A federal agency on Monday called for increased scrutiny of the potential for a proposed 2,000-megawatt pump storage hydroelectric project to interfere with the base flow of Arizona's Verde River and affect endangered species like the bald eagle.

The U.S. Department of the Interior's Office of Environmental Policy and Compliance recommended Longview Energy Exchange LLC conduct environmental and wildlife surveys as well as a thorough hydrologic study before proceeding with the project, according to comments filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Monday.
