Siemens, Areva Trim Noncompete To End Antitrust Probe

Law360, New York (March 14, 2012, 1:33 PM EDT) -- Areva SA and Siemens AG agreed to scale back the scope of noncompete agreements in an effort to settle an investigation by the European Commission over whether the companies’ practices ran afoul of European Union competition law, the antitrust regulator said Wednesday.

Under joint commitments submitted Wednesday, France-based Areva and Siemens agreed to reduce the number of products and services affected by the noncompete agreements. The deal also allows Siemens out of its restrictions almost a full year in advance.
