Miss. High Court Demands Details On $3B DOE-Backed Plant

Law360, New York (March 15, 2012, 6:18 PM EDT) -- The Mississippi Supreme Court told state regulators Thursday to give more details supporting their approval of a $2.9 billion coal-fired power plant, agreeing with the Sierra Club that too little is known about the unproven gasification technology backed by the U.S. Department of Energy.

The environmental group argued the utility commission had broken the law by not fully explaining why it granted Mississippi Power Co. a permit for the Kemper County plant, which has received more than $400 million in federal grants and tax breaks....
