Italy On Verge Of Raising Bar For Merger Notification

Law360, New York (March 19, 2012, 8:17 PM EDT) -- Italian lawmakers are debating a proposal designed to stimulate the country's stagnant economy through antitrust reforms, including revisions to the merger control regime likely to drastically cut the number of deals reviewed by the Italian authorities.

The draft measures, proposed by the Italian Antitrust Authority in January, call for liberalizing the banking, transportation and energy sectors — among others — in order to promote competition.
