Enviro Groups Sue PPG Over Allegheny River Pollution

Law360, New York (March 20, 2012, 7:28 PM EDT) -- The Sierra Club and PennEnvironment are accusing PPG Industries Inc. of illegally discharging arsenic, lead, mercury and other pollutants into the Allegheny River, lodging a suit against the company in Pennsylvania federal court Tuesday.

The environmental groups allege PPG took no steps to obtain a permit authorizing and limiting discharges from slurry lagoons at an Armstrong County, Pa. waste site, putting the company in violation of the Clean Water Act, Pennsylvania Clean Streams Law and a 2009 administrative order from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection,...
