House Passes Bill To Rid Government Of Excess Property

Law360, New York (March 20, 2012, 6:48 PM EDT) -- The U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday unanimously approved a bill directing the Obama administration to dispose of thousands of excess buildings in an effort to eliminate more than $1 billion in maintenance costs.

The Excess Federal Building and Property Disposal Act, H.R. 665, requires that the administration create a process for identifying which of its more than 900,000 buildings should be deemed unnecessary and implement a five-year pilot program through which to dispose of at least 15 them.
