FERC OKs Proposal For 2,250-Turbine Miss. River Project

Law360, New York (March 20, 2012, 8:33 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Tuesday greenlighted a proposal by Free Flow Power Corp. to install 2,250 hydrokinetic turbines on the bottom of the Mississippi River, simultaneously denying a permit for a similar, competing project.

FERC determined that Free Flow Power's Duncan Point Project and one proposed by Northland Power Mississippi River LLC were virtually identical, but Boston-based Free Flow Power had won a January drawing giving it priority in the event of such a determination, according to the FERC order issued Tuesday....
