Broadcom Grows Fiber Arsenal With $195M BroadLight Buy

Law360, New York (March 21, 2012, 1:40 PM EDT) -- Broadcom Corp. will pay $195 million in cash for Israel-based BroadLight Inc., a privately held microchip company with technology that will expand Broadcom's wired communications business, the company said Wednesday.

BroadLight's semiconductors go into fiber cables that connect data centers to homes and buildings. Its technology is expected to help Broadcom meet growing demand for services like Internet-based television and streaming video, which all require faster speeds in smaller packages.
