EU Court Tosses VW Bid To Block Suzuki's GTi Mark

Law360, New York (March 21, 2012, 1:46 PM EDT) -- A European Union court on Wednesday ruled that German automaker Volkswagen AG could not block Suzuki Motor Corp.’s bid to trademark its “Swift GTi” car model name, finding that Suzuki’s proposed trademark was not confusingly similar to Volkswagen’s “GTI” marks.

The EU General Court upheld an earlier decision by the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market that denied Volkswagen’s opposition to Suzuki’s application to gain a trademark for its Swift GTi model.
