USPTO Chief Says Efficiency Isn't A Substitute For Fees

Law360, New York (March 21, 2012, 6:25 PM EDT) -- U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Director David Kappos on Tuesday defended the agency's proposed fee changes under the America Invents Act, knocking detractors who say that the patent office should focus on efficiency instead of price hikes.

In a post on Kappos' public blog, the director said that in last month's public meetings on the USPTO's planned fee changes, some participants said the agency did not need to increase fees, but rather, needed to be more efficient.
