Lawmaker Says Bill Would Shrink Medicare Part C Costs

Law360, New York (March 23, 2012, 5:49 PM EDT) -- The Democratic ranking member of the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means introduced a bill on Thursday he says would help end overpayments to private insurers in the Medicare Advantage program, saving taxpayers $20 billion over the next 10 years.

U.S. Rep. Pete Stark, D-Calif., said his bill, titled the Medicare Advantage Program Integrity Act, would ensure Medicare Advantage payments to private insurers more accurately reflected the health status of patients, as well as delay prepayments to Medicare Advantage plans.
