Automated Infusion Patent Claims Toothless, Fed. Circ. Finds

Law360, New York (March 26, 2012, 4:11 PM EDT) -- The Federal Circuit on Monday found invalid a holding company's patent on an intravenous infusion system because it did not describe the process to control the automated infusion, upholding a lower court ruling that dismissed infringement claims against CareFusion 303 Inc.

In the underlying suit, Ergo Licensing LLC, the U.S. holding company for German engineering professor Uvo Holscher, claimed that medical device maker Carefusion infringed its patent for an automated system that allowed patients to receive controlled infusions of several intravenous fluids at once.
