Focus Turns To Gusset Plates In Bridge Collapse

Law360 (August 13, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- As everyone looks for answers as to what could have caused the fatal Minneapolis bridge collapse, the frenzy over the structure's steel gusset plates is building, with news reports linking the plates to another bridge debacle over a decade ago.

On Aug. 1, a part of the I-35 bridge, which stretches more than 1900 feet over the Mississippi River, crumbled to the ground during rush hour, plunging at least eight people to their deaths and sending a chill down the spines of drivers nationwide.
