Ciena, Broadwing Settle Patent Dispute Over Optical Networking Technology

Law360, New York (April 3, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- Broadwing Corp. has agreed to pay rival Ciena Corp. $35 million in three equal annual installments to settle a five-year-old patent dispute between the two optical networking companies.

Because Broadwing is a Ciena customer, Ciena will allow the carrier to apply $33 million of the total payment toward Ciena equipment and services “at market prices,” the two companies said.
