Japanese Patent Office Invalidates Applera Patent

Law360 (April 4, 2005, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Japanese Patent Office has invalidated Applera Corp.'s Japanese patent for real-time PCR thermal cycler technology, a key part of equipment used in genetic research, Applera said.

Applera said it intended to appeal the decision, and that it would have no impact on its patents for the same technology in Europe and the U.S.
