CFTC To Keep Closer Watch Over High-Frequency Trading

Law360, New York (March 29, 2012, 8:50 PM EDT) -- The head of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission said Thursday that his agency would soon request comments on a new regulatory regime to oversee high-frequency trading and other relatively new trading technologies blamed for the "flash crash" of May 2010 and other market mishaps.

The CFTC is struggling to keep up with sophisticated trading firms and to find ways to ensure high-frequency and algorithmic traders do not cause market disruptions or gain an unfair advantage over traditional investors.
