GOP Sen. Aims To Put The Brakes On Ethanol Fuel Suits

Law360, New York (March 29, 2012, 5:55 PM EDT) -- Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., announced Thursday he will introduce legislation that would protect ethanol fuel companies, gas stations and automakers from lawsuits brought over damage allegedly caused to car engines by ethanol-gasoline blends.

The Domestic Fuels Act of 2012 would shield carmakers, engine makers and companies that make or sell renewable fuels or renewable fuel additives from civil liability actions in federal or state courts over the products' effects on cars. The bill also would mandate the dismissal of any already-filed actions against the companies....
