Suncor To Pay $2M For Refinery’s Air Quality Violations

Law360, New York (April 2, 2012, 7:49 PM EDT) -- Suncor Energy (USA) Inc. has agreed to fork over more than $2.2 million in fines to resolve a slew of air quality violations at a Colorado petroleum refinery, a state regulator said Monday.

Colorado inspectors said they discovered multiple violations of state and federal requirements during an inspection of Suncor's Commerce City refinery, just outside of Denver, in summer 2010. The company's most significant violations involved the national emission standard for benzene waste operations, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said.
