USPTO Aims To Speed Review Of Rejected-Patent Appeals

Law360, New York (April 3, 2012, 7:36 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office announced a new program Monday aimed at reducing patent pendency by giving examiners a limited amount of time to consider responses filed after a final rejection, though attorneys said the potential impact of the program is unclear.

Under the After Final Consideration pilot program, currently scheduled to run through June, examiners will be given up to three hours of time after a final rejection to consider an applicant's responses and decide whether they make the application allowable.
