Commission Praises Mattel Toy Recall

Law360, New York (August 16, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- European Commission regulators have applauded the most recent recall by toymaker Mattel Inc., and have urged other retailers to step up their oversight of manufacturing and product safety.

Regulators on Thursday confirmed that Mattel had recalled 18 million toys after discovering that they may be dangerous. The company had warned the Commission on Tuesday that it might recall certain magnetic products, including Batman and Barbie brand toys, because the magnets in them could become dislodged and would cause intestinal problems if swallowed.
