New Nuclear Licenses Unlikely This Year, Experts Say

Law360, New York (April 5, 2012, 7:57 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is all but certain not to license any additional nuclear power plants until at least 2013, despite its approval this year of the first new reactor licenses in some three decades, according to regulators and industry representatives.

The NRC granted combined construction and operating licenses to two companies back to back in the first quarter of 2012, but decisions on the remaining 10 license applications under active NRC review will be more staggered, people involved in the process say.
