Alliant's $392M Offer For 600-MW Calpine Plant Approved

Law360, New York (April 6, 2012, 3:08 PM EDT) -- Overcoming concerns about impacts on consumer pocketbooks, Alliant Energy Corp. on Thursday won the blessing of Wisconsin regulators for a $392 million deal to buy a Calpine Corp. natural gas-fired power plant with 600 megawatts of capacity.

Alliant will decide by May 31 whether to have subsidiary Wisconsin Power & Light Co. purchase the Riverside Energy Center. If the company moves ahead, the deal should close by the year's end.

"Frankly, we're still just doing our due diligence," said Steve Schultz, Alliant spokesman.
