Ukraine Signs On To $10B Trans-Caspian Pipeline

Law360, New York (April 6, 2012, 1:43 PM EDT) -- Ukraine will support a €7.9 billion ($10.3 billion) pipeline carrying gas from Turkmenistan westward on a subsea Caspian Sea line, the country said Thursday, in a project that could ease regional energy tensions and open a path for Central Asian gas to reach Europe.

Ukraine’s support — which the Kyiv Post reported to be 10 percent of the project costs, or about $1 billion — comes with a requirement that the Trans-Caspian Pipeline include an offshoot to the Georgian oil port of Kulevi on the eastern...
