US, Brazil Toast Spirits-Recognition Trade Plan

Law360, New York (April 9, 2012, 1:53 PM EDT) -- U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk and his Brazilian counterpart on Monday both signed off on a process that would have the U.S. and Brazil recognize certain spirits from each country as unique, which would bar their foreign production.

Kirk and Brazilian Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade Fernando Pimentel signed an exchange of letters that begins a process by which the U.S. would recognize Cachaça as a distinctive product of Brazil and, in exchange, Brazil would recognize Bourbon Whiskey and Tennessee Whiskey as distinctive products...
