Enviro Report Alleges Illegal Peruvian Wood Trade

Law360, New York (April 10, 2012, 7:36 PM EDT) -- An environmental group on Tuesday alleged widespread corruption and lack of oversight in the Peruvian logging industry and accused 20 U.S. companies of importing illegally harvested wood, in violation of the countries' free trade agreement.

The Environmental Investigation Agency released the results of a study of Peruvian government documents that claimed Maderera Bozovich SAC's American subsidiary and other U.S. lumber importers bought 112 shipments of environmentally protected cedar and mahogany between 2008 and 2010 that had likely been harvested from off-limits forests using false documents....
