Fisheries Service Draws Fire Over Stalled Hydro Projects

Law360, New York (April 12, 2012, 4:48 PM EDT) -- U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., on Monday joined federal energy regulators in criticizing the National Marine Fisheries Service for missing deadlines to issue its opinion on the impact of hydroelectric projects in the southeastern U.S. on the endangered shortnose and Atlantic sturgeons.

Two of the six hydroelectric projects at issue are in South Carolina, Graham's home state. In a letter to NMFS Southeast regional administrator Roy Crabtree, Graham expressed concern that the agency had missed Endangered Species Act-mandated deadlines to issue biological opinions on the impact...
