Bill To Ease Hospital Mergers Sweeps Through RI Senate

Law360, New York (April 13, 2012, 6:09 PM EDT) -- The Rhode Island Senate unanimously passed a bill Thursday that would make it easier for for-profit companies to buy up nonprofit hospitals in the state, by ending a prohibition that stops corporations from buying more than one nonprofit hospital in a three-year window.

The bill comes as mergers of hospitals and other health care companies are increasing, garnering attention from antitrust authorities.
