FDA Urged To Deny High Fructose Corn Syrup Name Change

Law360, New York (April 17, 2012, 5:18 PM EDT) -- A coalition of consumer organizations on Tuesday called on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to heed public demands and prevent food processors from referring to high fructose corn syrup as “corn sugar” on nutrition labels.

The National Consumers League and three other advocacy groups asked the FDA to promptly deny a petition from the Corn Refiners Association requesting permission to use the new moniker, arguing that nearly 5,000 individual consumers have filed public comments against the petition while only 40 people have supported the CRA...
