Chevron Pollution Doc Seizure Went Too Far, DC Circ. Hears

Law360, Washington (April 17, 2012, 4:04 PM EDT) -- Consulting firm Weinberg Group told the D.C. Circuit on Tuesday that a document subpoena stemming from an $18 billion Chevron Corp. pollution suit was poorly handled, saying more than half of the 1,400 documents shouldn't have been subject to the order.

The subpoena stems from a complaint brought by a group of indigenous Ecuadoreans called the Lago Agrio plaintiffs, who claimed a Chevron predecessor dumped crude oil in the Amazon decades ago, causing residents to develop cancer and destroying natural resources. The group won an $18...
