Senate Bill Expands Pediatric Drug Regulation, Incentives

Law360, New York (April 18, 2012, 2:36 PM EDT) -- A bipartisan quartet of senators on Tuesday introduced a bill to extend and expand legislation credited with dramatic improvement in the testing and production of pediatric drugs and devices.

The Better Pharmaceuticals and Devices for Children Act calls for reauthorization of three laws passed since the late 1990s to ensure proper dosing of medicine given to children and stimulate invention of youth-oriented medical equipment.

Dr. Robert W. Block, president of the American Academy of Pediatrics, hailed the move for recognizing "the unique needs of children."...
