EU May Issue Fewer ETS Permits To Bolster Carbon Market

Law360, New York (April 19, 2012, 4:43 PM EDT) -- The European Union’s climate change chief said Thursday she was considering supporting a reduction in the number of new greenhouse gas emissions permits available through the Emissions Trading System, to boost the carbon market that has been hurt by the economic slowdown.

Connie Hedegaard, the EU’s commissioner for climate action, said that as the final phase of the implementation of the European carbon market approaches in 2013, more must be done to make the ETS viable.
