US-UK Patent Office Partnership Boosts Quality, Report Says

Law360, New York (April 19, 2012, 5:33 PM EDT) -- An initiative between the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.K. Intellectual Property Office to share search and examination work on corresponding patent applications has improved the quality of the patents being granted, the agencies said in a report Thursday.

Both offices surveyed their examiners about the work-sharing initiative, begun in 2010, and found that most felt the program was beneficial and that documents from the sister office often were useful in their work.
