La. Lawmaker Accused Of Writing Bills To Aid Big Oil Clients

Law360, New York (April 20, 2012, 8:57 PM EDT) -- Baton Rouge, La., attorney Don Carmouche filed an ethics complaint Thursday accusing Louisiana state Rep. Neil Abramson, D-New Orleans, of introducing legislation that directly and illegally benefits the energy company clients of Abramson's law firm Liskow & Lewis in environmental damage lawsuits.

Carmouche says Liskow & Lewis hired Abramson as a shareholder in February, about a month before the Louisiana Legislature convened. Abramson then personally authored five bills designed to benefit himself, his firm and the firm's primary clients, Exxon Mobil Corp. and BP PLC, the...
