US, UK To Fund Floating Turbines For Deepwater Wind Farms

Law360, New York (April 23, 2012, 12:40 PM EDT) -- The U.S. and Britain said Monday they will jointly fund research to develop floating wind turbines that would allow offshore power generation in deeper waters, where seabed anchors are expensive and repairs are risky.

Water deeper than 200 feet has been off-limits for tradition platforms, which are drilled into the ocean floor. But these ocean corridors benefit from consistently higher wind speeds, and hold much of the unlocked potential of the world's oceans.
