EU Suspends Myanmar Sanctions, Urges More Reform

Law360, New York (April 23, 2012, 4:06 PM EDT) -- The European Union said Monday that it would suspend the vast majority of its economic sanctions against Myanmar, in the latest and largest global response to recent democratic and humanitarian reform in the Southeast Asian nation.

Europe's Foreign Affairs Council said the EU would suspend enforcement of all sanctions against Myanmar except an arms embargo, a move widely expected since the council announced in January that it would review sanctions in light of the formerly autocratic nation's “remarkable program of political reform.”
