Kentucky Lawmakers Crack Down On Painkiller Abuse

Law360, New York (April 23, 2012, 7:58 PM EDT) -- With nearly three residents dying each day from prescription drug abuse, Kentucky lawmakers late Friday passed legislation aimed at sharply reducing the availability of painkillers and strictly policing the professionals who distribute the medication.

More than 1,000 Kentuckians die annually from prescription drug overdoses, and the rate of such deaths is the sixth-highest in the nation, according to state officials.
